We are the Porters- LLC 2012

Your photographers: from love, to marriage, to baby carriage!

June 7, 2016

As most of you know, I am a teacher by day.  A few months ago one of my students said to me “Mr. Porter my mom is getting married and wants to know if you can be her photographer?” A few emails later and it was set, we were the official photographers for Jessica and Ryan’s wedding! It was one of the fastest bookings Jess and I have ever had and all thanks to my students!

Jessica and Ryan are an extremely sweet couple and a modern day Brady Bunch family with 7 kids between them, each one of them sweet, smart, and extremely excited for their parents to get married! They met through mutual friends while Ryan was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas.  As Jessica tells it, her friends thought “she needed a Dominican in her life!”  Sealing the deal for them was the fact that on their first date, the song “At Last” was playing everywhere they went!

The wedding took place in Homestead, FL at the BEAUTIFUL Walton House.  This place has no shortage of gorgeous little hidden spots all around.  W...

We had the pleasure of shooting Safia and Charles' maternity session not too long ago at Hugh Taylor State Park (you can check out their blog post right before this post) and we knew that we would have to start preparing ourselves for our very first newborn TWIN session in the following weeks. I was really excited and went and bought some adorable matching props to bring to the session. After all, I do love any excuse to shop! I was also nervous though, not at having to pose two babies because I felt confident that I could do so safely, but I thought for sure that at least one of these beautiful princesses would be awake which is not ideal for a newborn session. Photographers LOVE sleeping newborns because then we can place them into all the adorable poses our clients spend hours looking for on Pinterest!

I did not expect both twins to sleep at the same time, I prepared myself for one to be awake and the other to be sleeping, then the other one would wake up the other on...

Holy moly can you imagine going from a family of three to a family of five just like that!? I have known Safia since high school. She is such a sweet person and her fiancé Charles, is a perfect match to her personality. He is one of the nicest, most good-natured guys we’ve met. Matt and I had the pleasure of photographing Safia’s first pregnancy with her little boy, Elijah, as well as Elijah’s newborn session and his 1st birthday session! We are now completely overjoyed to be photographing her second maternity session and this time it’s twin girls!

Safia and Charles met through two of our mutual friends, Sabrina and Stephanie. When Sabrina and Stephanie went to Tallahassee for college, they met Charles. After college, everyone moved back down to South Florida and Sabrina invited both Charles and Safia to her birthday celebration at the Hard Rock Hotel in Fort Lauderdale. Safia and Charles met that night and haven’t spent a day apart since! I love hearing love stories like that because...

Let me just start this blog post by saying we LOVE photographing babies! It is one of the hardest but most fun sessions that we do. Newborns are especially difficult because these sessions can take hours! But who doesn’t love an opportunity to love on a squishy baby for a few hours! We highly suggest any parent who is choosing a newborn photographer to choose someone with a lot of baby experience because handling babies is a fragile and delicate process! BUT. SO. FUN.

Anyway, Matt knows Elissa because they used to teach at the same middle school over ten years ago! Shortly after Matt and I met, we went out to celebrate Elissa’s husband’s (Stephen) birthday at Dave and Buster’s. That was the first time I was meeting any of Matt’s friends and I remember being really nervous! Elissa and Steve are the sweetest couple and they made me feel comfortable immediately. You can tell just by looking at them that they are so in love. They’ve been together since high school, and they are still just...

Matt and I met Cherell and Justin through one of my best friends, Asha whom I've known since middle school! I can't thank Ashie enough for introducing Matt and I to such an amazing couple and for believing in us to capture every perfect detail of their wedding.

If I had to describe our perfect bridal clients, it would be Cherell and Justin. They were full of ideas but also trusted us and our own visions, they were NOT shy in front of the camera and knew how to strike a pose when they needed to (and so did their entire bridal party!) and most importantly, they are "head over heels, you're the only one in the room, I can't stop smiling" in love. That's truly the part that makes a couple easy to photograph. It's hard for your photos to look anything LESS than fantastic when you're so happy and excited to be married to the love of your life that the photographers, the nerves, the time crunch, the small things that go wrong at every wedding, (yes at every wedding, sorry to break it to you!)...

So this is it: our first blog post! Matt and I have been wanting to do this for a while but we've been a little shy about putting our lives out there! Since we decided to re-brand our business entirely, including changing our extremely supercalifragilisticexpialidociously long business name which was formerly Porter Photography and Productions, (say that three times fast) we decided why not just jump right in and start blogging too!? We're excited for our clients and anyone visiting our page to get to know us, both as a couple and individually. We really want to develop a relationship with our clients so that they feel comfortable telling us their story which will help us capture REAL moments through our lens.

I had been thinking of completely changing up our business:  slogan, name, website, EVERYTHING really, for a little while but I knew that Matt would be nervous about it especially when it felt like we'd just settled into our business routine after 3 years of getting our name out...
